Curtirhynchia was named by Buckman (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale J Bajo Sepkoski's reference number: 1091]. Its type is Rhynchonella oolitica.

It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhynchonellinae by Williams et al. (2002).
