Taxonomy
Chrysobothris veterana was named by von Heyden (1847). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Solnhofen (Historischen Vereins von Mittelfranken collection), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.
It was synonymized subjectively with Sphenoptera sphinx by Deichmüller (1886); it was synonymized subjectively with Actea sphinx by Handlirsch (1906) and Ponomarenko (1971).
