Dimerella was named by Zittel (1870) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. It is not extant. Its type is Dimerella guembeli. It is the type genus of Dimerellidae, Dimerellinae.
It was assigned to Dimerellinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
