Eohemithiris was named by Hertlein and Grant (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. It is extant. Its type is Eohemithiris alexi.

It was corrected as Eohemithyris by Cooper (1959) and Williams et al. (2002).

It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Basiliolinae by Cooper (1959) and Williams et al. (2002).
