Orthocosta lithomantidoides was named by Waterlot (1934). It is an impression. Its type locality is Sarre-et-Moselle colliery, siège of Ste-Fontaine, vein Q, which is in a Westphalian C terrestrial shale in the Sulzbach Formation of France.
