Taxonomy
Probolarina transversa was named by Cooper (1988). Its type specimen is USNM 551517a, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Martin Marietta Berkeley Quarry, which is in a Lutetian shallow subtidal limestone in the Santee Limestone Formation of South Carolina.
