Taxonomy
Spirifer plicatus was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Dolerorthis plicata by Williams (1951); it was synonymized subjectively with Costistricklandia lirata lirata by Bassett and Cocks (1974).
