Leiodes was named by Latreille (1796). It is extant. It is the type genus of Leiodesidae, Leiodinae.

It was assigned to Coleoptera by Latreille (1796); to Diaperialae by Latreille (1802); and to Leiodini by Bouchard et al. (2011).
