Laevirhynchia was named by Dagys (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. It is the type genus of Laevirhynchiidae.

It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Laevirhynchiidae by Williams et al. (2002).
