Taxonomy
Phaneroptera germari was named by Münster (1842). It is an impression. Its type locality is Solnhofen (BSPGM Munich coll), which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofen Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Phaneropterites germari by Munster (1887) and Handlirsch (1906); it was considered a nomen dubium by Zeuner (1942); it was recombined as Locustopsis germari by Zessin (1983).
