Lunaria was named by Jin et al. (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 538].

It was corrected as Lunarhynchia by Williams et al. (2002).

It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhynchonellinae by Williams et al. (2002).
