Cirpa fromontae was named by Craig (2002). Its type specimen is WAM 81.1396a, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bringo Cutting (WAM), which is in a Bajocian shallow subtidal limestone in the Newmarracarra Limestone Formation of Australia.
