Taxonomy
Nipponirhynchia was named by Yanagida and Nishikawa (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: P Sakm-l Sepkoski's reference number: 881]. Its type is Nipponirhynchia shutoi. It is the type genus of Nipponirhynchiinae.

It was assigned to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nipponirhynchiinae by Williams et al. (2002).
