Masculostrobus was named by Seward (1911). It is not extant. Its type is Masculostrobus zeilleri.

It was assigned to Coniferales by Andrews (1970), Lakhanpal et al. (1976), Chandra and Tewari (1991) and Ash (1999); and to Pinophyta by Dietl and Schweigert (2011).
