Neocalamites was named by Halle (1908). It is not extant. Its type is Neocalamites hoerensis.
It was assigned to Calamitales by Lakhanpal et al. (1976); to Equisetales by Holmes (1982); to Equisetaceae by Knowlton (1919), Jain and Delevoryas (1967) and Ash (1999); and to Calamitaceae by Andrews (1970), Dietl and Schweigert (2011) and Chatterjee et al. (2013).
