Taxonomy
Themus pristinus was named by Kazantsev (2013). Its type specimen is DEI 1593-1, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber, Hoffeins/Deutsches Entomologische Institut collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.

It was recombined as Themus (Haplothemus) pristinus by Fanti (2017) and Fanti (2017).
