Taxonomy
Pugnoides was named by Weller (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Bash-l Sepkoski's reference number: 4,48,400]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Pugnax (Pugnoides) by Reed (1944).

It was assigned to Pugnax by Reed (1944); to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Petasmariidae by Williams et al. (2002).
