Taxonomy
Machaeraria was named by Cooper (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid D Eife-l Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. Its type is Rhynchonella formosa. It is the type genus of Machaerariidae.

It was assigned to Machaerariidae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
