Rhynchopora was named by King (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 1,2,25]. It is the type genus of Rhynchoporinae, Rhynchoporidae.
It was assigned to Rhynchoporinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
