Emphyloptera lecrivaini was named by Pruvost (1919). Its type specimen is MGL 1755, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Lens mines, pit 9, bowette 985, voie 338, which is in a Westphalian C/Westphalian D terrestrial shale in France.
