Cantacader was named by Amyot and Audinet-Serville (1843). It is extant. It is the type genus of Cantacaderinae, Cantacaderini.
It was assigned to Cantacaderini by Nel (1992) and Froeschner (1996); and to Cantacaderinae by Drake and Ruhoff (1960) and Wang et al. (2021).
