Strigirhynchia was named by Cooper and Grant (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 7]. It is the type genus of Strigirhynchiinae.

It was assigned to Strigirhynchiinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
