Taxonomy
Uncinulus was named by Bayle (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi-u D Eife-u Sepkoski's reference number: 25]. Its type is Rhynchonella subwilsoni. It is the type genus of Uncinulidae.

It was reranked as Rhynchonella (Uncinulus) by Schellwien (1900).

It was assigned to Rhynchonella by Schellwien (1900); to Uncinulidae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
