Taxonomy
Elcana mesostena was named by Handlirsch (1939). It is an impression. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Greifswald collection), which is in a Toarcian offshore claystone in Germany.
It was synonymized subjectively with Elcana geinitzi by Zessin (1987); it was recombined as Panorpidium mesostena by Eades et al. (2012).
