Taxonomy
Elcana westwoodi was named by Handlirsch (1906). It is an impression. Its type locality is Durlston Bay, Lower Purbeck, Swanage (Brodie coll.), which is in a Berriasian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal limestone in the Lulworth Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Panorpidium westwoodi by Jarzembowski (1996) and Eades et al. (2012).
