Cyphastrea spinea was named by Bromfield (2013). It is not extant. Its type locality is Daliconi FLV1.2, Vanua Balevu, which is in a Burdigalian reef, buildup or bioherm framestone/grainstone in the Tokelau Formation of Fiji.
