Taxonomy
Nuculana tenellula was named by Bartrum and Powell (1928). Its type specimen is SOE L2655, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Saccella tenellula by Fleming (1966), Beu et al. (1990), Maxwell and Spencer (2009) and Beu et al. (2012).
