Angiospirifer was named by Legrand-Blain (1985) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-u Sepkoski's reference number: 541,1200].

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); to Angiospiriferini by Waterhouse (2004); and to Angiospiriferinae by Williams et al. (2006).
