Stenaropodites magna was named by Storozhenko (1992). Its type specimen is PIN 1366/239, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Kityak (PIN collection 1366), which is in a Roadian lacustrine siliciclastic in the Belebeevo Formation of the Russian Federation.
