Bolilaspirifer was named by Sun (1981) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Bolilaspirifer jomdaensis.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudocyrtininae by Williams et al. (2006).
