Taxonomy
Tipula popovi was named by Krzemiński (2000). Its type specimen is PIN 3429/329, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Bolshaya Svetlovodnaya, Biamo (PIN collection 3429), which is in a Priabonian lacustrine diatomite in the Russian Federation.
