Callispirina was named by Cooper and Muir-Wood (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-u P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 411,432,1128]. Its type is Spiriferina ornata.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paraspiriferinidae by Williams et al. (2006).
