Calyptoria was named by Cooper (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar Sepkoski's reference number: 877]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Spiriferininae by Williams et al. (2006) and He and Chen (2016).
