Pleurotomaria apicialis was named by Hall (1876). It is not extant. Its type locality is Nichols, which is in a Frasnian marine horizon in the Chemung Formation of New York.
It was corrected as Pleurotomaria apicalis by Hall (1876); it was recombined as Calvibembexia apicalis by Wagner (2023).
