Murchisonia youngiana was named by Donald (1895). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Law Quarry near Dalry, which is in a Brigantian carbonate limestone in the Lower Limestone Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Hypergonia youngiana by Wagner (2023).
