Taxonomy
Murchisonia (Stegocoelia) smithiana was named by Donald (1895) [Murchisonia (Stegocoelia) Smithiana]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Law Quarry near Dalry, which is in a Brigantian carbonate limestone in the Lower Limestone Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Stegocoelia smithiana by Wagner (2023).
