Dalaia was named by Plodowski (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: P Wc Sepkoski's reference number: 538]. Its type is Dalaia tardiplicata.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Brachythyrididae by Williams et al. (2006).
