Taxonomy
Gyrinus sculpturatus was named by Mjöberg (1905). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Härnösand, which is in a Pleistocene pond peat in Sweden.

It was recombined as Protogyrininus sculpturatus by Gustafson and Miller (2013).
