Taxonomy
Pliocleonus gibbosus was named by Gersdorf (1976). Its type specimen is GZG 21933, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Willershausen clay pit (GZG collection), which is in a Piacenzian pond marl in Germany.
