Taxonomy
Hazelia was named by Walcott (1920) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-u Cm uMid-m Sepkoski's reference number: 766,883,1019]. It is not extant. Its type is Hazelia palmata. It is the type genus of Hazeliidae.

It was assigned to Haplosclerida by Sepkoski (2002); to Hazeliidae by Rigby (1987) and Finks et al. (2004); and to Demospongia by Bambach et al. (2007).
