Taxonomy
Elymospirifer was named by Wang (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 24]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Elymospiriferinae.

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Elymospiriferinae by Williams et al. (2006).
