Fusella was named by M'Coy (1844) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Serp-u Sepkoski's reference number: 400].

It was assigned to Spiriferidae by Brunton and Champion (1974); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bashkiriinae by Williams et al. (2006).
