Taxonomy
Pecten (Plagioctenium) eldridgei was named by Arnold (1906). Its type specimen is USNM 164580, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is McKittrick District, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in California.
It was recombined as Pecten (Aequipecten) eldridgei by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Argopecten circularis eldridgei by Moore (1984).
