Aequipecten revellei was named by Durham (1950). Its type specimen is UCMP 15510, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Chlamys revellei by Emerson and Hertlein (1954); it was recombined as Chlamys (Argopecten) revellei by Hertlein (1966); it was recombined as Argopecten revellei by Moore (1984).
