Taxonomy
Pecten discus was named by Conrad (1857). Its type specimen is UCMP 13335, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pecten (Plagioctenium) discus by Arnold (1906); it was recombined as Pecten (Aequipecten) discus by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Chlamys discus by Stanton (1966); it was recombined as Leptopecten discus by Vedder and Moore (1976); it was recombined as Aequipecten discus by Squires and Fritsche (1978); it was recombined as Pacipecten discus by Moore (1984).
