Hedeina was named by Boucot (1957).

It was synonymized subjectively with Macropleura by Bassett and Cocks (1974).

It was assigned to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eospiriferinae by Jin and Chatterton (1997) and Williams et al. (2006).
