Mya pubescens was named by Pulteney (1799). It is extant. It is the type species of Thracia, Thracia (Thracia).

It was recombined as Thracia pubescens by Sowerby (1823); it was recombined as Thracia (Thracia) pubescens by Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
