Taxonomy
Eriptychius americanus was named by Walcott (1892). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Harding Quarry, northwest of CaƱon City, which is in a Franklinian open shallow subtidal sandstone in the Harding Sandstone Formation of Colorado. It is the type species of Eriptychius.
