Taxonomy
Spiriferina (Mentzelia) was named by Quenstedt (1871) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-l Tr Rhae Sepkoski's reference number: 1,434,674]. It is the type subgenus of Mentzeliinae, Mentzeliidae.

It was reranked as Mentzelia by Sepkoski (2002), Williams et al. (2006) and He and Chen (2016).

It was assigned to Spiriferina by Quenstedt (1871); to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mentzeliinae by Williams et al. (2006) and He and Chen (2016).
