Echinocardium marylandiense was named by Kier (1972). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Scientist Cliffs [Calvert Beach Mbr, Calvert Fm], which is in a Serravallian marginal marine sandstone in the Calvert Formation of Maryland.
